It may just happen... [Sep. 2nd, 2005|10:52 am]

I haven't mentioned it till now but it may just happen.

Free 42" Plasma TV.

I have confirmation that my order is being processed and I will receive tracking info in the next 15-20 days.

I've spent a total $44 completing offers to make this one happen. 9 Offers total, most of them were just applying for credit cards or trying samples.

So let's count: 1-free 40GB iPod (retailed $299), 1-free Mac Mini (retailed $399), 1-free Samsung 42" wall-mountable widescreen Plasma EDTV (retails $3499).

Hmmmm... $70 out of pocket and careful overseeing of my status through each one, or never-in-a-million-years-actually-paying-$4200 for all of this shit. Skeptics: screw ya! I made it work!

Yeah, it's been worth it. A little work never paid off so well. And I truly deserve to be duped on the next one of these offers I try. I just can't swear I'll never do it again. I could really use a new digital still/video camera.

Part I:FRIDAYCollapse )

PART II: FRIDAY NIGHTCollapse )
PART III SATURDAY - MY UNBIRTHDAY PARTY

Slept in. Got email from John, he couldn't come. So it was up to jic to provide guests for my litle party at 6:00. Spent the day cleaning, Peder cooked ribs, cornbread, summer cobbler. I cleaned the patio and strung rope lights up inside the patio table's umbrella. Cute and effective outdoor lighting

jic arrived with kunzite1 and shortly after came vampireborg. We had drinks and dinner, and chat and music and Jenga. It was fun, I thank my guests for coming out! And to jic for the cute candle decoration.

And SUNDAY was nothing but whatever we felt like doing. Light gardening, cleaning. Relaxation. So much weekend happened that it felt like I got a free extra day.

desparate plea - wanted for trade [Aug. 25th, 2005|02:28 pm]

[Current Mood |depresseddesparate]

my music room monitor F&*$ING died on me a couple weeks back. Not that I'm using the room right now anyway on account of it's become a mess since the living room remodel dumped a bunch of crap in the music room. But still, here's what I need:

NEED ONE MONITOR: flat panel or CRT (would prefer flat panel but I do keep dreaming), at least 16" viewable display but would love 19 or 20" for GarageBand to be easier to use.

HAVE FOR TRADE: an HP laptop in weird but working condition-

700mhz PIII, 256MB RAM, 20 GB HD, built-in ethernet & modem, DVD drive, Win98SE installed

display is broke (bad backlight), but plug in a monitor & keyboard/mouse and you have the tiniest tower PC ever. Keyboard and pointer on laptop work just fine though. Could also just be used as a network drive or something. I used it to compose music for a while till I got the Mac, so it's fast enough for multimedia and DVD playback.

Our cats have had their share of "oops I stepped out the window into a strange world with no ceiling" escapes that made them both excited and scared, and super-grateful to be back in the house once caught. But the past month or so was especially exciting. The humans have learned their lessons.

ah, the adventures of owning a housecat.

colored wristbands [Aug. 24th, 2005|01:58 pm]

[Current Music |Joppa Road - Ween]

WARNING: asshole-ish journal entry ahead.

At first I had no idea what the yellow wristband meant. Then I learned it was to promote cancer awareness.  Donate to the cause and you get a Livestrong wristband.  Noble cause. This yellow wristband began standing out on business folks, blue collars, my cousin who is a cancer survivor, Average Joe on the Street.  Anyone wearing it was making a bold statement.

Then came more colored wristbands, and their unique awareness goals. Donate to the cause of your choice, there's probly a colored wristband for it.

Then came a burger joint commercial.  Buy a combo meal, get a green wristband promoting... I don't remember.  Probably had to do with getting other people to buy combo meals though.

Then came the gumball machine at the goodwill, where you could get one of 12 different colored wristbands that look just like awareness bands, for 50 cents.

And now, when I see a colored wristband or a rainbow of wristbands on someone's arm, I think nothing of charity, awareness, or the need to donate to a noble cause.  I'm actually saddened and a little disgusted, knowing you can get a colored band anywhere, even a gumball machine, and pass it off as support for some cause.

about the headphones [Aug. 18th, 2005|02:00 pm]

[Current Music |Chick A Boom Boom Boom-Mocean Worker]

OK, I just looked at my last few entries and discovered that no, I have not in fact even talked about my actual Birthday. It was on Monday Aug 1st. The reason for this oversight is simple: pain. That morning I called my Doctor, crying because I was in such a great amount of pain. She called in the RX for codeine, and after picking it up and popping a couple pills, my afternoon was much more comfortable. When Peder got home I told him I wanted to finally open the big heavy present that sounded like it had metal chains inside it.

It did.

They were filler material, to throw me off. There was a rock in there too.

The actual present was a small box, wrapped again inside. I tore off this wrapping paper to find the BOSE brand name staring me in the face.

HOLY LIVING FUCK.

BOSE QUIET COMFORT 2 NOISE CANCELLING HEADPHONES. These things are fucking amazing. And they come with a hard carrying case that fits my ipod in there as well, all adaptors for any stereo fit, including airplane, and a 10 foot extension cord for watching movies if I so desire. But then there's the sound itself. Bose doesn't enhance sound, it simply plays your music back to you in it's purest form, as if you were a mixer sitting in a music studio with your finished product playing back to you over the perfectly balanced monitor phones/speakers. I nearly orgasmed after hearing "Chasing A Dream" and then tried out other songs on the iPod. And the noise cancel only enhances the experience. These headphones make love to the music, and I will treasure them for oh so many reasons. One of which is getting to stay up late on my Saturday nights now with these headphones, working on my music. Another of which is being in my own little noiseless-except for music-world on my daily commuter train rides, or grocery store trips.

Peder says he made the sales guy at the Bose store really work for this purchase, and listened to tons of songs on all their different headphones before deciding on these. Kinda like the way I did when getting him that Bose sound dock for Christmas. We buy things for each other that we would want ourselves.

These headphones better last a LONG time for the price he paid. Lordy, do I love that man. He knows just what I love. I told him that when I'm not using them, he's welcome to them. But I'm finding it's not very often that that happens.

so one of my posture problems is I look at the keyboard while typing. Bad habit I know, but it's also how I play piano. Yes yes, I KNOW! Badbadbad.

Update time, man it's gonna take forever to write this cause I'm at this very moment trying to type without looking at the keyboard. I keep having to backspace over shit. Fucking frustrating!

The Final WeekendCollapse )
MONDAY

Physical therapy and back to work!

TUESDAY

Blood draw to see if the 8 weeks of lipitor have lowered my cholesterol. And more work. Still taking meds for back strain, but forgot to bring them with me to work. Paid for that dearly. Working only a few exercises at a time back into my evening routine, as per my physical therapist. Big Brother (TV show) is pissing me off.

WEDNESDAY

Doc called, all my cholesterol levels are finally acceptable to her, yay!

THURSDAY

Doing well. Have spent most of my time after lunch composing this journal entry. Tonight's Big Brother is probly just going to piss me off more.
